A first look at Copilot Next
We're rebuilding Copilot from the ground up, and today we're giving a first look to a small group of customers.
Copilot Next takes a fundamentally different approach than today's Copilot. Today's Copilot follows a fixed and deterministic pipeline (a predetermined set of steps to interpret and answer your question). Copilot Next acts as an agent: it reasons through your question directly, decides what to look up, and responds in real time. It’s built on the same infrastructure that’s powering Chord MCP (more on this below).
Copilot Next pulls live data from your Chord warehouse and draws on the context you've built within our platform: the semantic definitions, governance, and the rest of the context stack we released earlier this year. That combination is what produces more accurate answers, better handling of complex questions. We've done this rebuild in a way that preserves all your hard-earned context, and we believe you'll be able to extract even more value and trust from your managed first-party data.
This release coincides with the launch of Chord MCP and its companion Copilot skill. Together they bring the same governed access to your data, and the context around it, to the tools your team already works in, like Claude. Shared data and shared context is what makes AI trustworthy and collaborative. With Chord, the intelligence you've built travels to wherever your team is asking questions, grounded in the same definitions and governance everywhere.
It's early, and not every feature from today's Copilot is here yet. But the foundation is solid, and we'd rather build it alongside our customers than wait until it's perfect.
If you already have access to Copilot Next, we'd love your feedback. If you'd like early access, join the waitlist by reaching out to product@chord.co.
